Find 4 words for 2026…
This isn’t a New Years Resolution. Please keep reading.
What are your (4 ) words to help get you back up on your feet and mindfully engaged? Knowing - that a simple focus, like a word, can help keep you mindfully focussed and on a personal improvement, or a quest, or accomplishing an important goal, or maybe finding an answer. There is in this post a helpful step in getting us there. Knowing is simply a step in getting there. Knowing is a way.
Whatever we think, dream, and put in our minds, with intention, can in fact be ours. In having a goal, something worthwhile in mind we can begin to fail our way to that success, and if we persist we will succeed in getting it or something else, fairly close to it, or, it will some how find us. Like that job or a profession. Like finding a friend, or losing one, or adopting a dog, or buying a car, building a home, successfully quitting cigarettes, or drugs, or alcohol, or finding a spouse, whatever… In fact - dreams do come true. Look around, the world is full of success stories. Look around, those huge buildings, bridges, inventions, entrepreneurs, best selling books, races won, whatever, didn’t happen accidentally. They were all created out of someone’s intention, in their mind.
A journey of a thousand miles…, (In Canada that’s 1609.34 kilometers) …begins with a single step.
So, start seeking 4 words, maybe more. But find those 4 words, the most significant, suitable and simple for the change you seek. Put them somewhere where you can see them evert day. Know that each day is new and you can always start over, again and again. It’s that simple.
If you are committed to make this work you need to keep the list posted, somewhere in plain sight. This way you can keep the words in mind. If not, there’s the strong likelihood in not being successful. Intention is the key. Intention is essential with any success.
Aside: It’s a new day here on the island, the sun’s about to appear, forecasted to shine for the next 3 days, that’s almost an event here on the west coast in January.. I’m up and awake, with coffee, a pen and paper, and nothing to lose, everything to gain. Here goes
On the first go, 4 words came quickly. Then came another 6 words, and another 3, the list kept growing. A final total of 15 words. After studying the words for a while a pattern emmerged, there were a few closely similar words/synonyms and a choice could be made to cross a few out.
I finally settled on 4. Maybe 2026 is not enough time. Or too much. That’s not the point. It’s a start, and that’s the point.
Patience √ Mindful√ Focussed √ Open √
And, in all that, one word at a time and only when the time is right. Life is short, but long enough. Be realistic. Focus on short term goals. That’s so much easier than directing a movie, or building a cabin in the wood or writing a book:
- On that windy day on the water, my one word is - jibing
- While waiting and waiting to get out the door and get going - my one word is - patience
- When my grandson is nearby and wanting a playdate it’s - open
- With camera in hand, and seeking a decent shot/composition it’s -focussed, mindful, & patient
- When listening, or deciding, or wondering it’s - mindful
With that let’s see how 2026 unfolds. It seems like it’s been a long, wayward journey getting all the way to here from when I was 9 years old. Here we are, one more day unfolding. Four words, and a few backups. (I may have to post all 8, (or add the last word to the first 4.)…
