Brain tatts V body tatts

It turns out we mostly live in our heads. And inside mine, I’m the CEO of (*John), Inc.
Being CEO comes with responsibilities - namely, a business plan. A statement of intention. Preferably one that works.

Good news: There is a plan. Better news: it’s been more than reasonably successful.

Along the way, a handful of motivators have kept me upright and moving forward, including:

  • If it’s going to be, it’s up to me.

  • A journey of a thousand (miles) begins with a single step.

  • Fail your way to success.

  • I found my hero and he is me.

  • Keep digging. Hold your ground. Just keep on keepin’ on.

  • Sticks and stones… you know the rest.

  • Faint heart never kissed fair maiden.

  • Life’s a bitch and then you die… or life’s a beach and then you dive  - choose wisely.    (I always chose the beach as a destination, always.)

When I’ve been in over my head and needed a floaty on a rope, one of these lines mostly always kept me from going under…

This morning’s walk to Bader’s Beach on Salt Spring Island made something click. The route - icy frost patches here, muddy service road there, a rushing mountain stream beside and below me - has become automatic. Another beautiful walking routine. The grade’s familiar. The rhythm too. Autopilot engaged.

That’s the point.

No driving. Just coat, hat, poles, boots or runners, and out the door.  Gone.
Winter, summer, spring, fall - it happens because the decision was made long ago. No announcements. No rewards. No applause. Just action.

No tattoo required. No T-shirt either. Simply, the Nike philosophy: Just Do It.
The longer you walk, the longer you will keep walking.

When you’re the CEO of Y.O.U., you set the tempo. You keep the beat. You stay focused. Walking leads to readiness - for wind, waves, and a board underfoot, for one. A small daily plan feeding a bigger plan: stay capable, stay playful, stay in motion. Think “extended recess,” but with intention.

My commitment to walking isn’t inked on skin. It’s a billboard-sized brain tattoo - bright, adjustable, and upgradeable as needed to keep me independent and moving.

Those four words from the last post? They are brain tattoos. The backups too. Mental ink.
Tools for change. Growth. Improvement.  If it’s going to be, it’s up to me.

Everything around us began as a thought - bridges, buildings, tools, religions, air conditioning (thankfully). Seeing is believing. Believing is seeing.

And the best part?

A brain tattoo is free.
Create it. Change it. Remove it.
No needle. No charge.

Choose wisely.
